More About This Fabric

Bohemian Garden is a really special viscose, combining a richly detailed floral print with a fabulous decorative border.

The main body of the fabric has a deep navy background scattered with an abundance of flowers, leaves and delicate little botanical details in shades of hot pink, orange, coral, peach and purple. There’s so much to discover within the print, but the dark background keeps the overall effect rich and incredibly wearable.

And then we come to the border.

Running along one selvedge is an intricate decorative border in coordinating shades of coral, navy, cream and blue. Beyond the border, the floral design continues onto a contrasting soft blue background, creating a beautiful transition from dark to light across the width of the fabric.

This gives you so many opportunities to get creative with your cutting. Position the border around the hem of a dress or skirt, use it along the bottom of a sleeve, incorporate it into a shirt or blouse, or make it a feature on a statement panel.

Printed on soft and fluid viscose, Bohemian Garden has the beautiful drape and movement that makes viscose so lovely for garment sewing.

A fabric to have some fun with — before you reach for the scissors, spread it out, move your pattern pieces around and decide exactly where you want that gorgeous border to appear.

Sewing Notes

Recommended Needle:
Microtex 70/10 or fine Universal needle.

As this is a border print with the border running along one selvedge, we recommend planning your pattern placement before cutting. You may need to position your pattern pieces differently from the suggested cutting layout to make the most of the border.

Think about where you'd like the border to sit on the finished garment — it could make a fabulous dress or skirt hem, sleeve detail, shirt hem, yoke or feature panel.

Bear in mind that using the border may affect the amount of fabric you need, particularly if you want the border to appear continuously around a garment. We recommend checking your pattern pieces against the usable width and border placement before deciding on your required meterage.

Viscose can be fluid and prone to shifting while cutting, so lay the fabric on a flat surface and allow it to relax before you begin. Cutting in a single layer can be particularly helpful with this fabric, both for accuracy and for controlling exactly where the print and border fall.

Use a fine, sharp needle — approximately 70/10 or 80/12 — together with a good-quality polyester thread. Fine pins or clips will help prevent marking or distorting the fabric.

Staystitch curved and bias-cut areas such as necklines and armholes soon after cutting to prevent them from stretching out of shape.

For dresses and skirts, particularly fuller or bias-cut styles, allow the finished garment to hang before hemming as the viscose may drop slightly.

Finish seams with an overlocker, narrow zigzag or your preferred enclosed seam finish for a neat result.
