A Note About Product/fabric Colours

We photograph almost all of our fabrics and products ourselves and take great care to represent their colours as accurately as possible.

However, colours may appear slightly different in real life due to lighting, photography and variations in individual screen and monitor settings. For this reason, we cannot guarantee an exact colour match.

We kindly ask that you keep this in mind before placing your order. If an exact shade is essential to your project, or you're unsure about a colour shown in our photographs, we recommend contacting us before purchasing.

Please note that slight colour variations between our photographs and the actual product are not considered faults and are not, on their own, grounds for a refund.

More About This Fabric

If you love classic denim but fancy something a little different, our Indigo Trails Striped Denim Jacquard is a beautiful way to add texture and interest to your handmade wardrobe.
At first glance, this looks like a lovely deep indigo denim, but take a closer look and you'll discover a wonderful collection of delicate, irregular stripes running through the fabric.
Fine broken lines in soft grey, faded blue and subtle olive tones create an almost hand-stitched appearance, giving the fabric a relaxed, slightly artisan feel. The stripes vary in thickness and spacing, creating a lovely sense of movement without overpowering the classic denim background.
What makes this fabric particularly special is its woven jacquard construction. Rather than being printed onto the surface, the delicate stripes are created within the weave itself, adding subtle texture and a beautiful depth to the design.
At 330gsm, Indigo Trails is a substantial denim with plenty of body and structure, making it a wonderful choice for garments that need to hold their shape. The cotton-rich composition gives it that familiar denim character, while the polyester adds strength and durability.
Made from 70% cotton and 30% polyester, this is a versatile fabric that works beautifully for all sorts of everyday dressmaking projects.
With a generous 155cm width, it's particularly suitable for jackets, trousers, skirts and dungarees, as well as bags and accessories.
I can just imagine this made into a fabulous pair of wide-leg trousers, a classic denim jacket or a relaxed utility-style overshirt. The subtle stripe design would look especially lovely on a simple garment, where the woven texture can really shine.
Whether you're planning a timeless wardrobe staple or fancy adding something a little different to your denim collection, Indigo Trails is a beautiful fabric that combines classic style with a wonderfully distinctive woven design.

Sewing Notes

Indigo Trails is a substantial woven denim jacquard with a beautiful irregular stripe design. A little care during cutting and sewing will help you achieve a lovely finish.
- Recommended needle: Use a jeans needle, size 90/14. For thicker seams or several layers, a 100/16 may be more suitable.
- Cutting: Use sharp dressmaking scissors or a rotary cutter. Keep the fabric flat while cutting to maintain the alignment of the woven stripes.
- Pattern placement: The stripes run lengthwise through the fabric. Keep them running vertically on your garment for a classic look, or consider using them horizontally on pockets or other details for contrast.
- Pattern matching: Although the irregular design is quite forgiving, take a little care when positioning pattern pieces so the stripes flow nicely across seams.
- Stitching: A straight stitch of approximately 3–3.5mm is a good starting point. Test your stitch length on a scrap first.
- Thread: A good-quality polyester thread is ideal. Contrasting topstitching in a soft blue or traditional denim gold could look particularly effective.
- Seam finishing: Finish raw edges using an overlocker or zigzag stitch to prevent fraying.
- Pressing: Press from the wrong side using a pressing cloth and steam as needed. Avoid excessive pressure on the jacquard surface.
- Reducing bulk: Grade and trim seam allowances where necessary, particularly around collars, cuffs and waistbands.
- Topstitching: A slightly longer stitch of approximately 3–3.5mm will give a lovely finish to pockets, plackets and seams.
- Prewashing: Prewash before cutting to allow for any shrinkage. Wash separately initially, as dark indigo denim may release some colour.
A little sewing tip: The subtle woven stripes make this a wonderful fabric for playing with pattern direction. Try cutting patch pockets, a yoke or a collar with the stripes running horizontally to create a lovely contrast against the main garment.
