A Note About Product/fabric Colours

We photograph almost all of our fabrics and products ourselves and take great care to represent their colours as accurately as possible.

However, colours may appear slightly different in real life due to lighting, photography and variations in individual screen and monitor settings. For this reason, we cannot guarantee an exact colour match.

We kindly ask that you keep this in mind before placing your order. If an exact shade is essential to your project, or you're unsure about a colour shown in our photographs, we recommend contacting us before purchasing.

Please note that slight colour variations between our photographs and the actual product are not considered faults and are not, on their own, grounds for a refund.

More About This Fabric

Meet Meadow Cable, a beautifully soft and cosy cable-knit fabric that combines traditional knitted texture with a lovely contemporary feel.

Featuring a classic raised cable design, this fabric has a wonderfully soft handle and plenty of stretch, making it a gorgeous choice for comfortable handmade knitwear.

The embroidered version is scattered with the prettiest little floral bouquets in soft pink, yellow, red and green, adding a charming vintage-inspired touch. If you prefer something a little simpler, the classic version allows the beautiful cable-knit texture to take centre stage.

Made from a blend of 50% viscose and 50% polyester, Meadow Cable feels soft against the skin and has a comfortable, flexible structure. With approximately 70% stretch across the width, it's ideal for creating garments that are cosy without feeling overly bulky.

One particularly lovely feature is the finished edge along both selvedges, measuring approximately 2cm wide. These edges can be incorporated into your design as a decorative finish for cardigan fronts, sleeve cuffs or hems.

Whether you're making a pretty button-up cardigan, a relaxed jumper or a sleeveless sweater vest, Meadow Cable is a gorgeous choice for adding a little texture and personality to your handmade wardrobe.

Sewing Notes

Meadow Cable is a soft, stretchy knitted fabric with a raised cable texture. The open-knit areas and embroidered details require a little extra care when cutting and sewing.

Prewashing: We recommend prewashing your fabric at 30°C before cutting. Lay flat to dry where possible to help maintain its shape.

Needle: Use a ballpoint or stretch needle, size 75/11 or 80/12. Always test on a scrap first.

Thread: A good-quality polyester thread is suitable. Maraflex stretch thread is another option when sewing with a regular sewing machine.

Stitch: Use a narrow zigzag or suitable stretch stitch to allow seams to stretch without breaking.

Overlocker: This fabric is suitable for overlocking. Use a four-thread overlock stitch and test your differential feed to prevent wavy seams.

Cutting: Use sharp scissors or a rotary cutter, taking care not to stretch the fabric while cutting.

Stabilising: We recommend stabilising shoulder seams with clear elastic or a suitable stabilising tape to prevent stretching.

Seam finishes: Take care with the open-knit areas, as cut edges may unravel. Finish seams securely and avoid leaving raw edges unfinished.

Hemming: A twin needle or carefully adjusted stretch stitch works well. Alternatively, incorporate the finished selvedge into your design.

Our tip: The beautiful finished selvedge is a feature worth making the most of! Consider using it along the front edges of a cardigan or as a decorative hem. Plan your cutting layout carefully before cutting to take advantage of this lovely detail.

When using the embroidered version, take care to position the floral motifs thoughtfully and avoid placing bulky embroidery directly within seams.

Stitching: A narrow zigzag or stretch stitch will allow seams to move with the fabric. An overlocker is also an excellent choice.

Thread: A good-quality polyester thread is ideal. Gütermann Maraflex is a useful option when sewing stretch seams on a regular sewing machine.

Cutting: Allow the fabric to relax before cutting and take care not to stretch it out of shape. A rotary cutter can be particularly useful for maintaining accuracy.

Seam support: Consider adding clear elastic or lightweight stretch stabilising tape to shoulder seams to help prevent stretching.

Hemming: A twin needle or coverstitch machine will give a lovely professional finish. Test on a scrap first to make sure the hem lies flat.

Rib direction: Keep the ribs running vertically for a consistent finish and pay attention to the direction of greatest stretch when positioning pattern pieces.

Use clips or fine pins to hold layers in place and avoid pulling the fabric through the machine as you sew.

A walking foot can be helpful if the layers shift.

For hems, use a twin needle, coverstitch or stretch stitch for a neat flexible finish.
